07/08 High School Wrestling Information

• Informational meeting October 24 th during clubs at the High School

• Information available anytime thru Coach Conner or Coach Chirico at 842-2222 or cconner@mail.fluco.org / pchirico@mail.fluco.org

• November 5 th thru November 19 th Body fat testing at the high school by Athletic Trainer

• November 12 th , first day of practice.

• Must have a physical on file with the Athletic Trainer or in hand the first day of practice

• Practice will start at the High School at 3:30 and continue at the Middle School from 4:30 to 6:30 PM

• Conditioning from 3:30 till 4:30 and mat time after

• Be sure you arrange to be picked up by 6:30

• Commitment is a must during the season

Great news item posted in the forum by Coach Kowaleski

FCPR is proud to announce the 3rd annual Fluvanna County Parks and Recreation Youth Wrestling Program! This program will introduce youth to the sport of collegiate/folkstyle wrestling. Practices will be held on Tuesday and Thursday nights. The program will teach basic wrestling moves and philosophy of good sportsmanship. Competition will depend on the age and weight of the youth. Matches and tournaments will be available to participants who wish to participate. Practices will start November 14th and run through March 1st. Instructors will be Billy Crawford, Chris Kowaleski and Jerry Roach. If you need more information on this program, please call FCPR at 434-842-1035.



Date: November 15th – March 1st

Time: Tuesdays and Thursdays – 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Place: Fluvanna Middle School

Fee: $35.00 (t-shirt included)

Age: 4th – 7th grades

Club Secures Off-Season Location

The Fluvanna Boys Wrestling Club has secured a practice facility during the off season.   Mr. Billy Crawford mounted a community search for space and secured space at The Monticello Coon Hunting Club.   Members of the club were more than happy to allow the boys to use the facility. Coaches Bill Crawford and Chris Kowaleski will be present on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 until 8:30 .   The club is located on Hunters Lane Road off of Oliver Creek Road .   For more detailed directions call one of the coaches.

Fluvanna Wrestler Wlllie Crawford to compete at NHSCA in Salisbury Maryland

The National High School Coaches Associaton is sponsoring a wrestling tournament in Salisbury , Maryland Memorial Day Weekend.   Wrestlers and their teams from as far away as Utah , and powerhouse clubs from Pa, N.J., Ohio and N.Y. will attend and compete.   In all more than 40 teams from across the country will participate.   A middle school team and two high school teams have been put together by Ray Sullins of Covington High School in Covington , Va. to represent The Commonwealth.

After securing The Outstanding Wrestler Award and winning The Freshman State Tournament sponsored by The Virginia Challenge, Mr. Sullins offered Willie Crawford a position on his team at the 189 lb. weight class.   Good luck to Willie as he tests his skills against some of the best wrestlers in the nation.

Willy Crawford wins Freshman States

Salem High School

The Virginia Challenge an organization promoting youth and high school wrestling in Virginia held there annual High School Freshman Tournament this weekend.   Willie Crawford of Troy , Virginia and a member of The Fluvanna County High School Wrestling Team pinned all three of his opponents on his way to the 189 lb.championship . At the conclusion of all wrestling Crawford was voted The Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament.   Willie is the son of proud parents Carla and Billy Crawford of Troy , Virginia .

 

Fluvanna High School Finishes Season

  The Fluvanna High School Wrestling Team finished their inaugural season with a 12 -15 dual meet record.   Coach Conner was pleased with the team's performance and has high expectations for the returning team members. At the season ending sports banquet special recognition was made to three outstanding young men. Freshman Willie Crawford was named the 2006-2007 Most Valuable Wrester. Wrestling in the 189 pound weight class Willie compiled a record of 20-7, finished 2nd at districts and advanced to the regionals. The Most Improved Wresltler award went to senior Daniel Mahaffey. Daniel had never wrestled before but quickly caught on and embraced the sport with great enthusiasm. The Committment Award went to sophmore Michael Hager.Michael wrestled up one and sometimes two weight classes above his normal weight to give the team its best chance at succeeding.

 

Fluvanna Wrestlers unsuccessful at Region II Tournament

Six Fluvanna High School Wrestlers qualified and five competed today at the Region II AA tournament held at James Wood High School in Winchester , Virginia .   The regional tournament is the last stepping stone before advancing to The Virginia State Tournament.   Representing the Flucos were 103 lb. freshman Trevor Reilly, 119 freshman Jonathan Wharton, 125 lb sophomore Charlie Valentine ,   152 lb junior Chad Dynski and 189lb freshman Willie Crawford.    No wrestler recorded a victory.

 

 

District Tournament  

In their first season and district tournament The Fluvanna County High School wrestling team had six wrestlers advance to the regional tournament
