If the Jefferson District Tournamnet is canceled on Wednesday we will being calling to let you know. Important Information Regarding the Jefferson District Tournament
The Jefferson District Tournament is scheduled to take place Wednesday evening 2/10/2010 at The Orange County Fieldhouse.. The weigh ins will be at 4:00 pm and the wrestling will begin at 5:00 pm. My assumption is that school will not be in session at one of the competing schools on Tuesday therefore making the weight class +3 for the tourney. All Jefferson District wrestlers should be prepared to make weight Wednesday at 4:00 pm.

Close Call for Flucos
The Fluvanna Wrestling Team closed out their dual meet season this evening in a quad hosted by Charlottesville High School. The Flucos opened the night against The Orange Hornets. The Hornets gave the Fluocs all they could handle and a couple of late match pins by Orange County wrestlers Ryan Almond (140) and Colin Pierce ( 145) gave Orange County additional points to take a commanding lead of 30-10. Christian Chirico pinned Sean Rafferty to begin closing the gap to 30-16. Fluvanna forfeited the 160 pound match and Orange moved ahead 36-16. Orange forfeited both 171 and 189 and The Flucos gained some ground trailing 36-28. Pins by both David Harlow (285) and Ben Lacey (215) gave the Flucos their first lead of the evening 40-36. The final match of the evening was a highly anticipated bout between Justin Zimmerman (FLU) and Phillip Coleman (Orange). Coleman had a tough assignment to slavage the match for The Hornets and Zimmerman had other things in mind. In a see saw battle Coleman took a first period lead 4-0 with a takedown and 2 near fall points. Zimmerman choose down and escaped and took Coleman down to trail 4-3. The second period closed with Zimmerman trailing 7-3. In the third period Zimmerman began to cut Coleman to do battle on their feet. Ultimately Zimmerman could not close the gap and relinquished a 11-9 decision. It was a great match and everyone is hoping for another exciting match at The District Tournament. Fluvanna forfeited both 160 and 135 and Orange forfeited 171 and 189. You can't get any closer than that.
Fluvanna turned around and defeated Covenant 54-21. Covenant forfeited 4 weight classes and wrestled well.
Host Charlottesville saved Fluvanna for their last match of the night but The Flucos were too much for The Black Knights and won the contest 54-21.
The Flucos ended their dual meet season with their best record (21-7) of their short four season existence. This season The Flucos swept all six Jefferson District opponents defeating William Monroe 63-12, Western Albemarle 48-19, Monticello 45-33, Louisa 44-25, Charlottesville 54-21 and squeaking out a victory over Orange 40-39. The Jefferson District Title is won by winning the year end individual tournament scheduled for this weekend. Impending weather is pushing the tournament to the following week, lets hope we can get it in.

A Break in the Weather
With a two hour delay Fluvanna will be able to compete in their final Jefferson District meet tonight. The match is at Charlottesville High School. The opponents tonight are Charlottesville, Orange and Covenant. Weigh ins are at 4:00 and wrestling is scheduled to begin at 5:00 pm.

Poor Weather Continues
Jefferson District Athletic Directors met today to address schedules for winter sports due to weather. The Jefferson District Wrestling Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, February 6th, however there is a problem in addition to the weather. All district matches have not been completed and are necessary to seed the tournament.
Fluvanna, Charlottesville and Orange have not met yet and there are some important matches that would affect the seeding process.
As of today the match is rescheduled for Thursday and the district tournament is set for Saturday. If the match is not completed before the weekend the seeding will take place without the results. VHSL rules state that the district tournament must be completed by the 10th of February.
Weather reports for the weekend are not promising and if necessary the tournament may occur either Monday,Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
If the tournament can not be held on or before the 10th then the district will have no other choice then to send the top four seeds onto the Regional Tournament. I believe this has happened once before. Lets hope for some sun and get this thing done.

Mother Nature Not Cooperating
For the third time this season bad weather has kept the Flucos off the wrestling mat. The latsest casualty was The New Kent Invitational.
Fluvanna has one district event left this season scheduled for 2/3 at Charlottesville with Orange. Fluvanna know 4-0 is hoping to defeat both teams and sweep the district this season. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we can get this event into the scorebook.
This coming weekend all AA programs are participating in their District Tournaments to narrow the field of participants for the upcoming Regional Tournaments. Once again bad weather is being forecasted for the weekend. If necessary this event may have to take place during the week. There have been conversations about wrestling the tournament this week if weather permits to avoid a district tournament and a regional tournament in the same week.
Last season Fluvanna advanced 9 wrestlers to the regioanls and are hoping to improve on that number. Fluvanna continues to be a member of Region II . Region II is now comprised of four districts, The Evergreen District ( Faquier, Kettle Run, Warren County, Liberty(Bealton), and Brentsville), The Northwestern District ( Skyline, James Wood, Millbrook, John Handley and Sherando), The Dulles District ( Freedom, Loudon County, Parkview, Broad Run, Briarwood, Potomac Falls, and Dominion and The Jefferson District (Fluvanna, Louisa, Monticello, William Monroe, Western Albemarle, Charlottesville and Orange).

Apologies
Wow, it has gone by fast and I apologize for not being more informative. The Flucos are now 14-10 in Dual Meet competition. This weekend the Flucos dropped a couple of close matches to Powhattan (44-34), York (46-39) and Jefferson Forest (39-37) at The Powhattan Duals. Willy Crawford was recognized as the tournaments outstanding wrestler. Crawford moved up a weight class (215) and pinned Yorks 2009 state qualifying wrestler Josh Phillips.
The previous weekend the Flucos were competing at an individual tournament The Free Lance Super 32 at Riverbend High School. In my opinion this has been the toughest tournament of the season in the state. 9th grader Justin Zimmerman placed 8th in the 103 pound weight class while Willy Crawford took the title at 189 lbs. In spectacular fashion Crawford recorded a pin to win the finals and was awarded the tournaments most outstanding wrestler award.
The Flucos were without some starters this weekend that are nursing nagging injuries before making the push to the district and regional tournaments. We are hoping to see the return of starters Jed Harris at 119 and Chase Schulte at 160. David Harlow was visiting Bridgewater as a football recruit and will be in the lineup.
Notable performances and records at this point are Justin Zimmerman 103lbs 24-5, Jonathan Wharton 125lbs. 15-5. Christian Chirico 152lbs. 24-4, Logan Walls 171lbs. 17-6 and Willy Crawford 189lbs. 27-1.
The Flucos will host two Jefferson District teams this Wednesday(1/27), The Green Dragons of William Monroe and the Warrirors of Western Albemarle.
Key match ups will include a rematch of Justin Zimmerman and Perrin Mills of William Monroe. The last time these two met Zimmerman won a hard fought battle 8-6. Trevor Reilly will be attempting to avenge a loss to Adam Weisenborn of W.M. the last time these two met Calvin emerged with a 10-7 victory.
The most anticipated match could be between Logan Walls of Fluvanna and Max Weiner of Western Albemarle at 171lbs. Last year as a Louisa freshman Walls and Weiner met in the distrct finals of the 160lb. weight class. Weiner won that match and moved on to the regional finals where he was bested by Wade Sweede of Brentsville Distrcit. Walls has shown great improvements on his feet and is wrestling well. Weiner has just returned from studying in New England and may not have reached top form yet. Either way this will be an interesting match up for fans in the know.
This weekend The Flucos will be participating in a individual tournament at New Kent High School. Stay turned for results and future dates.

Flucos Set to Wrestle in 7th Mountaineer Classic
The Fluvanna wrestling team will travel to Madison County High School Saturday Jan. 2nd to compete in the 7th Annual Mountaineer Classic.
The Flucos have been sidelined by inclement weather but have been practicing hard and are eager to showcase their talent.
This will be a great opportunity for Jefferson District teams to size one another up. In attendance will be Orange, Monticello, Western Albemarle, Charlottesville and Fluvanna. In the past Coach Sacra has done his best to seperate common season foes but it seems unlikely he will be able to do that Saturday.
Other teams in attendance will be AAA Dinwiddie, AA Courtland and Spotswood and A Madison, Essex, and Randolph Henry.
The Flucos are confident to fill the lineup for the first time this season. At the Flucos only other event at Manchester there were holes in lineup due to illnesses and SAT and ACT testing.
The Flucos have some seasoned veterans returning in Willy Crawford, Jonathan Wharton, Trevor Reilly and Christian Chirico. Last season Crawford won the state title at 171 pounds and will compete this year at 189. Jonathan Wharton was a state qualifying wrestler last season and will return at 125 pounds. Last year Trevor Reilly captured the district title at 112. Christian Chirico is settled in at 152. Last season he finished second in the district and moved on to the regional tournament finishing 2-2, both losses were to state qualifying wrestlers.
The Flucos also boast some new talent in freshman Justin Zimmerman at 103. Justin has looked good in practice and is ready to go. The Flucos are looking for a boost from a transfer student Logan Walls (171) from Louisa. Logan placed second in the Jefferson District tournament as a freshman last season. The rest of the lineup is composed of freshmen Dylan Sharp 112, Jed Harris 119, Matt Tankersley 140, and Chase Schulte at 160. Seniors Montel Armstrong, Peter Brennan and David Harlow will compete respectively at 135, 145 and heavyweight. Codi Weirsma will round out the lineup at 215.
Western Albemarle is the only team with a state qualifying wrestler returning in Max Wiener. Charlottesville has a stable of hopefuls who are having early season success in Chris Grant, Jimmy Carr, The two Ntenda brothers and transfer student Ayden Cousins. Monticello has returning district champ Alex Via and Jacob Marshall. Orange lost state placer Taylor Reuss to Woodberry Forest and is a young team.

Snow Snow and More Snow
The Marion Brutal Clash was canceled this weekend and the Fluocs found themselves two events down early in the season.
Good friendships and great anticipation by the coaching staff secured The Flucos a spot in The Turner Ashby Holiday Tournamnet in Bridgewater, Va. A special thanks goes out to Coach Crockett from TA for making room for The Flucos in the tournamnet.
The TA tournament was originally scheduled for the weekend but weather has pushed the tournament to Wednesday Dec 23rd. This is a double elimination individual tournament.
Turner Ashby High School is located at 800 North Main Street, Bridgewater, Va. The price of admission for fans is $5.00. The first round of wrestling will begin at 10:00am. The finals are set to begin at 4:00pm.

Flucos Start the Season
The Fluco wrestling team is set to start the season at The Manchester Duals this Saturday. The Flucos will be missing state qualifier Jonathan Wharton who will being taking the ACT test this weekend, we wish him good luck. Due to illness Jefferson District Champ Trevor Reilly will miss the event.
The Flucos will do their best to plug these holes with young talent from the wings. The probable starting lineup will be 103 Justin Zimmerman, 112 Dylan Sharp, 119 Jed Harris, 125 Brian Ciaccio, 130 forfeit, 135 Montel Armstrong, 140 Matt Tankersly, 145 Peter Brennan, 152 Christian Chirico, 160 Chase Schulte, 171 Logan Walls, 189 Willy Crawford, 215 Peter Lacey or Codi Weirsma, 285 David Harlow.
This is a first for the Flucos as they match their talent against a field composed of primarily AAA schools in the Richmand area. The Flucos begin the day in a pool with Landstown High School of Virginia Beach, Douglas Freeman last years Colonial District Champs and Stone Bridge a school locatedin Ashburn, Virginia.
The team will wrestle a minimum of four matches tomorrow depending upon 2nd round results.
2009-2010 Wrestle Offs
The mood was electifying as The Flucos began the first day of wrestle offs for the coming season. A trermendous turn out of young talented resulted in numerous wrestle offs as the defeated rallied to try their luck at another weight.
As of today the majority of the roster is set for the first quad of the season at Turner Ashby this Saturday.
The opening match at 103 pitted Justin Zimmerman against Joey Calabretta, Justin defeated Joey and laid claim to the 103 roster spot for this opening weekend.
At 112 Newcomer Peter Southworth did an outstanding job against Sky Weirsma but was unable to seal the deal as Weirsma rallied to win. In a second round bout Newcomer Dylan Sharp who I beleive has had some previous experience defeated Weirsma to advance in the bracket. Tomorrow Sharp will batlle Joe Calabretta for the starting position as Calabretta moves up a weight class to try and win a roster spot.
At 119 Brian Ciaccio and Jed Harris faced off. Jed and Brian are products of the middel school program and have 2 years of experience. Harris was the victor and secured the spot. Both wrestlers will weigh in on Saturday at 119 to fill a void in the lineup at 125.
John Wharton defeated Trevor Reilly for the 130 pound slot. Wharton has not cut to 125 yet. Trevor will wrestle 135 Saturday. The score of the match was lopsided but Reilly turned in a classic perfromance of guts and determination, hats off to both of these guys for an exciting and entertainig match.
At 140lbs. freshmen Daniel Hager and Matt Tankersly squared off, Tankersly won the challenge and emerges as the starting 140 pounder.
At 152 pounds junior Christian Chirico defeated Devon Manifold and secures his position at 152. There were no contestants at 160 and 171. Freshman Chase Schulte will start at 160 and Louisa transfer Logan Walls is the starting 171 pounder.
Senior Willy Crawford will be sitting for the SAT's this weekend which created a hole 189. Codi Wiersma and rookie Ben Lacey faced off for the starting spot. Lacey started off strong but Weirsma's experience was the deciding factor as Codi emerged with the victory. Unwilling to sit home this Saturday Ben Lacey moved up to 215 and defeated Brain Painter to earn a starting positionat 215. David Harlow is the 285 starter.

Get Ready for 2009-2010
The first day of practice is November 16th. Please make sure you have a physical or you will not be allowed to participate in the practice sessions. Coaches Conner and Chirico are excited and ready for the upcoming season.
The Flucos are poised to make a real run at the Jefferson District title this season. The Flucos lost solid point producers in Charlie Valentine and David Holding and their shoes will be tough to fill.
The Fluocs are returning State Champ Willy Crawford and state qualifier John Wharton to their lineup. Solid performances from Trevor Reilly and Christian Chirico are a must for the team to be successful.
Newcomer Peter Brennan was a pleaseant surprise last season and the Flucos are looking for him to continue to improve.
Sophmore transfer Logan Walls was a Jefferson District runnerup at 160 lbs. for the Louisa Lions last season. As a freshman Walls was a solid performer for the Lions and the Flucos are looking to capitalize on his presence in a Fluvanna singlet.
The scale tipping factors for the Flucos will be the maturation and development of the incoming freshman class. Last season the Flucos had a number of 8th graders who made a commitment to the team and practiced all season with the varsity squad.
Hopefuls include Justin Zimmerman who has been working hard during the off season. Others who might work into the mix include Jed Harris, Matt Tankersley, Jake Mahaffey, Skye Weirsma and Daniel Hager.
If you thinking about coming out for the team be mindful that none of these positions are secure. Every wrestler is one match away from being displaced from the lineup. We conduct weekly challenge matches so that everyone always has a chance to break into the lineup. If you are up to the challenge show up on November 16th and find out if you have got what it takes.
The Flucos 2009-2010 schedule is posted at both this website and the VAWA website.

NHSCA Dual Practice Session I Recap
Good practice and great intensity from Coach Harshaw. I particularly liked the grind and the steering wheel. I have watched Cody Allala (Hanover) AAA State Champ use the grind to perfection.
Coach Conner and Chirico were very happy to see the number of participants that made the trip. Mothers Day practice should be another high intensity session and we hope you can attend. If not we have two more sessions planned and we hope you can attend one of the two.
Our objective when assembling this team was to attract athletes of high moral character who will serve as positive role models in our communities in the future. We have either spoken with your Coaches or we have had the opportunity to have coached you in the past; and we beleive we have acheived our goal. Our expectations of you on and off the mat are high. We are headed into the Lions Den and we need to be prepared mentally and physically.
The true measure of our success will not be ascertained on Memorial Day weekend, this will just be one of the tests along the way. "Success is never final, failure is never fatal. It's courage that counts." John Wooden

NHSCA Dual Practice Session I
Through the generosity of one individual and the cooperation of the Charlottesvile Wrestling Club and The University of Virginia we will be having our first practice Sunday May 3rd from 4pm-6pm in The U.Va. wrestling room in Onesty Hall.
We have secured four dates and each session will be an intense and spirited workout run by either Coach Steve Garland, Scott Moore or Jim Harshaw.
We hope that everyone can attend at least one session if not more as we begin to prepare for The NHSCA Duals.
To make each session more productive I am asking each wrestler to email me with a specific move that you are having difficulty with either executing, perfecting, finishing or defending.
Please email me at paul_chirico@yahoo.com
The U.Va. wrestling room is located in Onesty Hall which is directly behind Universty Hall where the Cavaliers use to play their home basketball games. University Hall is directly across the road from The (new) John Paul Jones Arena.
The John Paul Jone Arena is located at the corner of Massie Road and Route 29 (Emmet St.) in Charlottesville. I will be posting a link with more specific directions in the future.
My Apologies
Coach Conners mailing address is 2731 Ruritan Lake Road, Scottsville,Va 24590. I reported the wrong zip code.
NHSCA Dual Team Solidifies
We have ten confirmed roster spots and we are reday to begin coordinating the cost and logisitical aspects of our venture.
Our plan is to eliminate the need and cost of singlets by having each member wear a personal singlet of their own. In the future we may be able to secure 14 singlets of the same color for the event; however at this point this is not a priority.
To reduce lodging costs we plan to camp out in tents at a nearby campground. This is not mandatory if you and your parents choose to lodge in a hotel that is fine. If you and your parent, parents or guardian do plan on camping with us we will need to know as soon as posiible to secure enough campsite space by April 21st.
The campsite we are utilizing allows six campers per site. Food will be an individual item in terms of cost.
To cover the cost of the entry fee into the tournament and lodging we have determine that each wrestler will be responsible for a $60.00 entry fee. A camping fee of $40.00 per person will apply to anyone who chooses to camp.
We have not addressed the issue of transportation yet because we do not know what each individual wrestling family plans on doing ( accompany there son, staying nearby or staying at home ). We anticipate having the ability to carpool some wrestlers if there is a need. As we move closer we will ascertain that need.
We are attempting to coordinate some kind of a practice-get to know each other prior to the event at a centrally located facility. It will not be mandatory.
I will continue to post as I gather more information. If you are truly committed you can determine your needs (camping, no camping)and forward you payment to Coach Conner. Coach Conner can be reached either at 1-434-591-1150 or cconner@mail.fluco.org or by post at 2731 Ruritan Lake Road, Scottsville, Virginia 24590
NHSCA National Duals Team
Coaches Conner, Crawford and Chirico are putting a regional team together to compete at The National High School Coaches Association Dual Team Tournament. The event will be held over Memorial Day weekend, May 22nd - 25th in Salisbury, Maryland. The plan is to tent camp and compete. There will be a fee to particiapte in the event and you will be required to bring money or food to eat.
This event is demandinng and attracts good quality teams from surrounding states. It is our objective to first offer positions on this team to our own Fluco wrestlers. We have already put the word out to other Jefferson District wrestlers and even some wrestlers from over in the Valley District.
We are confident we can field a full lineup and we are eager to get that lineup solidified. You have to let us know now if you wish to attend so we may offer this to ohers.
Call Coach Conner 591-1150 if you are interested and serious about participating in this event.

In their thrid season The Flying Flucos advanced nine wrestlers to the Region II Tournament at Park View High School and finished ninth out of the 23 teams participating. The only Jefferson District participants finishing ahead of Fluvanna were the Lions of Louisa County.
Fluvannas wrestlers amassed a total of 63 points as they advanced through the brackets on Friday evening and throughout the day Saturday. In the end region placewinners included Senior Charlie Valentine who finished 5th in the 135 lb. weight class. Junior Jonathan Wharton finished 4th in the 125 lb. weight class while junior Willy Crawford was the Flucos lone Regional Champion. A finish of fourth or better qualify's a contestant to participate in the AA State Tournament being held in Salem, Virginia.
Other Flucos who wrestled and contributed to the 63 points were Trevor Reilly, David Holding, Christian Chirico, Nick Greco and David Harlow.
The Same But Not The Same
The Flying Flucos repeated their performance from last year by advancing nine wrestlers to the Regional Tournament. Last season the Flucos sent one wrestler to the district finals (Trevor Reilly) and came away with a 2nd place finisher. The other eight candidates finished either third or fourth.
At this years Jefferson District Tournament the Flucos sent five wrestlers to the finals and captured three firsts and two seconds.
In a sparse 112 pound weight class Trevor Reilly advanced to the finals with a perfect 6-0 district record and awaited the outcome of a bout between Jacob Harlow of Louisa and Perrin Mills of William Monroe. In the finals Reilly (F) pinned Harlow (L) at the 2:27 mark of the match. A milestone in the program Trevor Reilly is the first Jefferson District Champion from Fluvanna County. At 125 Jonathan Wharton defeated Shane O'Hara fo Monticello for the second time this season and while O'Hara has worked hard and has improved tremendously Wharton disposed of O'Hara with a pin at the 1:40 mark of the match.
Charlie Valentine avenged an earlier season loss to Jordan Breeding of Monticello in a highly contested bout in the semi finals (12-10) and advanced to the finals to meet Randy Fisher. Valentine had lost a tough bout to Fisher earlier in the season and was looking for revenge number two in the same day. Valentine a senior bound for The United States Marine Corp gave it all he had and came up short (12-7 ) to finish second.
Bumping up to 152 from his regular season spot at 145 sophomore Christian Chirico advanced to the finals with two first period pins of Ben Stone of Louisa and Doug Sizemore of William Monroe. In the finals he met senior Travis Tucker of Orange. Two five point moves; a defensive takedown and a near fall and a reversal and a near fall put the match out of reach as Chirico battled back only to lose 12-6.
A highly anticipated rematch at 171 pitted Willy Crawford of Fluvanna against Logan McNutt of Louisa. Earlier in the season McNutt pinned Crawford in front of the home fans at Louisa. With the district tournament being held at Louisa the crowd was anticipating another victory and championship for McNutt. After a 0-0 first period McNutt had choice and chose the down position. Crawford rode McNutt the entire period and chose the down position to start the third period . An early period escape gave Crawford a 1-0 advantage and put McNutt in a position of needing to press for takedown. McNutt began his assault and Crawford caught him offgaurd at the line with a well executed ankle pick and increased hid lead to 3-0. Crawford then elected to to surrender a point to McNutt and continue in the bout on their feet. McNutt pressing and Crawford defending the match ended 3-1 in favor of Crawford.
Newcomer Peter Brennan was a surprise to the squad this year and through sheer effort and a desire to win placed third. Earlier in the day Chris McCann of William Monroe tech falled Peter. Brennan and McCann both dropped into the consolation round and met in the 3-4 match. Brennan caught McCann in a headlock and pinned him to secure third place.
At 130 pounds David Holding had a tough first round draw and wrestled Taylor Reuss of Orange County who went on to win the ditrict title. Holding wrestled a magnificent match but could not muster a point and succumbed 4-0. David then wrestled a consolation match against Garrett Brown of Monticello to secure third place.
Nick Greco recorded a consolation round pin of Mike Collier of William Monroe to advance to the 3-4 match only to lose to Chris Grant of Charlottesville. A very competitive 285 pound weight class with only four participants allowed David Harlow to advance despite two loses.
Battling back spasms and injuries senior Mike Hager was unable to continue to compete and dropped out of the tournament. Freshman Alex Williams dropped his first two matches and was eliminated as did Codi Weirsma.
Twelve participants and nine wrestlers advancing made Coach Conner pleased about his teams effort. "The boys have worked hard all year long anticipating this event. Five wrestlers in the finals with four of the five returning next season along with three of the four placewinners returning is a good base for next season. I was proud of their effort and how they conducted themselves on and off the mat."
The Flucos will travel to Sterling, Va. for the regional tournament held at Park View High School where they will square off against their counterparts from the Dulles and Northwest Districts. The top four finishers will advance to the state tournament in Salem, Va. the following weekend. Good Luck to all the Flucos.

Not Yet
In a bid to go undefeated in the Jefferson District The Flying Flucos fell short at the hands of powerhouse Louisa 57-21.
In their third season on the mat the Flucos have made tremendous strides and are closing the gap against their archrival Louisa Lions. With forfeits at 103 and 140 and with a starter out of the lineup at 160 the flucos knew that their chances for success were limited. The score remained close through the first nine bouts. A decision at 145 by Christian Chirco and a pin by first year wrestler Peter Brennan at 152 pulled the Fluoc's within six points 27-21. Going foward the Flucos could not muster another victory as they encountered Louisa's talented upper weight wrestlers. The Lions went on a run and recorded five straight pins fom Logan Walls, Logan McNutt, Kevin Whitmer, Charlie Elkins and Nate Whitmer adding 30 additional points for the Lions.
Earlier in the evening the Fluco's battled The Mustangs of Monticello and recorded their fifth Jefferson District victory of the year. Monticello forfeited a number of weight classes and battled valiantly but ultimately succumbed 37-33.
Notable matches of the evening pitted Jacob Marshall of Monticello against Ethan Faulls of Louisa. Marshall wrestled tough and was leading most of the way. A late period reversal by Faulls elevated him to a one point victory. In the Fluvanna/Louisa match Willie Crawford led most of the way but a late third period manuever by Logan McNutt caught Crawford off guard and McNutt pinned Crawford. A highly anticipated bout between two ranked wrestlers in the state at 171 pounds will probably occur again in the Jefferson District finals and may possibly occur in the Region II finals. The fans and the wrestlers are looking foward to the possible rematch.

Fluco's Improve District Record to 4-0
With previous victories over The Orange Hornets and Charlottesville Black Knights, the Fluvanna Wrestling Team improved their district record to 4-0 with victories over the William Monroe Green Dragons and the Western Albemarle Warriors.
In the first match of the evening, the Flucos faced off against William Monroe. After trading forfeits and pins, the score was tied 12-12 after the first 4 bouts. Once ahead, Fluvanna never looked back and ended the match with a 50 -28 victory.
Congratulations to Coach Sizemore, his staff, and his wrestlers. This is William Monroe's second season, their returning wrestlers showed tremendous improvement and they were able to fill 12 of the 14 weight classes. With a keen interest in competition and a committment to sportsmanship, the Green Dragons are an assett to the Jefferson District.
The second match of the evening pitted the Warriors against the Flucos. In a see-saw battle, the score remained 33-30 through the first eleven bouts in favor of Fluvanna. Wins by Weirsma, Greco and Harlow sealed the deal and the Flucos prevailed with a 48-30 victory.
The Flucos' two final district matches will be at Louisa High School on Wednesday the 21st. Victories over the Monticello Mustangs and Louisa Lions would give the Flucos a perfect district record. The key to achieving this goal will be forfeits and matchups, and the Flucos will have to have outstanding performances at all weight classes. For quite some time, Louisa has been (and is) the strongest team in the district. The Mustangs always have a respectable team and will be a formidable foe. Coach Conner and Coach Chirico are pleased to be in this position in their third season and attribute their success to the hard work and committment put forth by all the members of the team.
